Items you will need:

  • 8 corks for one coaster
  • Strong glue, preferably wood glue
  • Cork matting
  • Pair of Scissors
  • Heavy books or paper weights or any other weight

How to do it:

First, glue together the corks taking two at a time. It is better if they are roughly of the same width and same length. You need to do this to all the corks so that you can have 4 sets of two corks. Let them dry.

Then glue the sets of two together and let them dry.

After that, you need to measure a square of cork matting that is just a bit smaller than the bottom part of the cork coaster. You need to cut it out and glue it carefully to the bottom of the coaster so as to create a flat base.

Finally, cover it with a heavy book or paper weight or other weighted object so as to glue the matting firmly in place and keep it like that for a couple of hours.

First, take each cork and slice it in half, lengthwise. Be very careful that you do not slice your fingers while doing this. You may wear work gloves if you think they will help.

Now make the corks stand up on the cutting board or the cardboard and then cut it downward and slice it neatly in half like this

Now, carefully sand the sides of the cork with a sandpaper if they become too jagged. You need to run the sandpaper down gently along the sides and also along the middle to ensure a smooth, clean surface. After this, you need to create a bathmat base.

For this, you can use a plastic shelf liner or shower mat. You have to determine the appropriate size by either using another shower mat as a unit of measurement or by measuring the custom size that you desire.

You should consider your bathroom dimensions while determining the size.Next, cut the liner by using either a box cutter or a sharp knife. Then lay the shower mat or the shelf liner down on the floor or on any other flat surface. Now. cut the liner or the mat

Then, arrange the cork halves around the perimeter of the line or mat. Next, apply the hot glue to each flat half of each cork and then firmly press the cork into the liner or mat. You need to use a dab of glue at the top as well as the bottom of each cork and press into the mat

Then add the remaining corks to the mat. You can create a pattern or a design with the cork layout if you want.Make sure it is completely dry before using. You may apply a coat of any protective sealant, polyurethane across the top of the cork bathmat in order to waterproof it.
